Lincoln? Is that you?

During today's walk and stretch around the hotel (the streets were closed to traffic because, well, it's Sunday and that's what happens here). We saw this massive statue of Abraham Lincoln in the middle of the city square.

For some trivia fun, does anyone know why he's there?
