That's Soccer

In the Group D matches today, you had to feel a little sorry for Nigeria, which out-shot England 20-2, produced 11 corner kicks to England's zero...and lost. One of England's two shots came from Jessica Holbrook, who showed exactly why soccer is a cruel game with her clinical finish off a volley in the 79th minute and Nigeria could not manufacture a goal in the 1-0 loss. In the other Group D match, South Korea downed Brazil 2-1 and the South Americans are all but mathematically eliminated from the tournament. Nigeria now faces a big game against Brazil while the English are virtually through and just a point would make that a certainty. If the USA can win or tie against France, they would likely finish second in Group C and play the winner of Group D, which will be England unless they lose by a couple of goals against the South Koreans. That doesn't seem likely as while the English have scored just four goals in the tournament, they are the only team yet to give up one.
